Roberto Salas – Meet the Artist Commissioned to Create Public Art for Sweetwater Park

The Port of San Diego is hosting a Meet the Artist event with distinguished artist Roberto Salas who has been selected to create public art for the future Sweetwater Park in the Port of San Diego and City of Chula Vista’s Chula Vista Bayfront redevelopment

Those interested in learning about Roberto and gaining insight into his artistic process are invited to attend.

Planned as an informative and interactive evening with Roberto, attendees will learn about his significant body of work, creative processes, and sources of inspiration that he’ll draw from in developing the public art for Sweetwater Park as part of the Port’s Percent for Art Program. There will be opportunities for discussion and questions.

Admission is free and complimentary refreshments will be provided along with an area for children’s art activities. 

About Roberto Salas 
Born and raised in El Paso, Texas, Roberto Salas has numerous ties to the San Diego region and is a graduate of the University of California, San Diego where he received his Master of Fine Arts degree in visual arts. Roberto is a versatile artist, teacher, and lecturer who has completed numerous artworks ranging from relief sculptures and mosaics to painted murals and large-scale stone steles. 
His work has been commissioned by various cities, commissions, and organizations throughout California and across the United States, as well as internationally. Roberto’s artwork has been displayed in places like the Koumi-machi Kougen Museum of Art in Koumi, Japan, Logan Heights Library, Chicano Park, and includes “Itzamna” the significant sculptural limestone panel on the exterior facade of Southwestern College’s Learning Resource Center.
