Port of San Diego to Host Job Fair for Tenth Avenue Marine Terminal Redevelopment, other Local Projects

The Port of San Diego welcomes the public to attend a job fair for opportunities related to the Tenth Avenue Marine Terminal Redevelopment Project, other local projects, and the Port itself. The event will take place Thursday, January 18, 2018 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at San Diego Continuing Education, Cesar E. Chavez Campus, 1901 Main Street, San Diego.

The Tenth Avenue Marine Terminal Redevelopment Project Phase 1, known as the Modernization, is a $24 million public works project that will result in a more modern, clean and efficient cargo terminal. In October 2017, the Board of Port Commissioners selected Dick Miller, Inc. of San Marcos for a $12.3 million contract under the first of three contract packages for the Modernization. The work includes the demolition of the first of two obsolete and underutilized transit sheds, excavation, grading and other improvements. Work by Dick Miller, Inc. began last month and is ongoing.

Port of San Diego Receives Green Fleet Leadership Award by the San Diego Regional Clean Cities Coalition

green fleet leadership award1 201 12 20The Port of San Diego has received a Green Fleet Leadership Award, recognizing the Port’s dedication to exploring options for alternative fuels and cutting petroleum use and emissions in the San Diego region. The award was presented by the San Diego Regional Clean Cities Coalition, a program sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy to advance economic, environmental and energy security by supporting local actions to cut petroleum use in transportation.

Port of San Diego Holiday Bowl Parade to Take Place December 28

MC 12.18.17Holiday Bowl ParadeThe public is invited to experience a holiday season tradition by viewing the 27th annual Port of San Diego Holiday Bowl Parade presented by National Funding. The inspiring and iconic parade takes place Thursday, December 28, 2017 along North Harbor Drive.

The parade starts at 10 a.m. in front of the County Administration Building on North Harbor Drive between West Cedar and West Beech Streets. It proceeds south on North Harbor Drive and ends where North Harbor Drive meets Pacific Highway. See the parade route here.

Local sports legend Randy Jones, a member of the San Diego Padres Hall of Fame and former Cy Young Award Winner will serve as the parade’s Grand Marshal. This year’s theme is “Celebrating 40 Years!” which pertains to the 40th anniversary of the Holiday Bowl Game.

Port of San Diego Honors Seven Sustainable Green Business Network Members

2017 winnersThe Port of San Diego honored seven of its sustainable tenants for their efforts toward ensuring the preservation of San Diego Bay at the 2017 Green Business Network Sustainable Achievement Award Ceremony. The event was held November 7, 2017 aboard the USS Midway Museum.

“The Port of San Diego is pleased to recognize these Green Business Network members for their exemplary efforts and commitment to conserve one of San Diego’s most important natural resources,” said Chairman Robert “Dukie” Valderrama, Board of Port Commissioners, Port of San Diego. “Our Green Business Network members account for approximately 80 percent of energy consumed on Port tidelands, so every sustainable action they take plays a crucial role in reducing the environmental impact on our dynamic waterfront.”
