Get to Know Your Local Trees: Spanish Landing
At Spanish Landing Park West, a grove of recently planted trees is helping the Port of San Diego improve its commitment to sustainability, beautification of existing park space, and climate resilience.
A Sustainable Approach to Planting
Each tree species was chosen by subject matter experts with thoughtful intentions. The selected trees focus on non-invasive, water-wise varieties that are perfect for San Diego’s coastal climate. While they are still young saplings, these new trees are anticipated to enhance the park’s appearance and contribute to its long-term environmental health by promoting biodiversity, offering cool shade, and supporting local habitats.
In the daylight, the trees provide cool shade and brighten the park with shades of green, from deep emerald to soft olive and bright lime. Whether sunlight filters through the feathery branches of the Dawn Redwood or reflects off the shiny leaves of the Southern Magnolia, the scenery is peaceful and refreshing!
