
Joel Valenzuela is a Vice President at the Port of San Diego, overseeing the Port’s maritime business line, engineering, and field operations.
The Port’s maritime business line includes cargo and cruise operations, maritime industrial leaseholds/shipyards, and public piers and docks on San Diego Bay. Port engineering administers public works projects, including design and construction of port infrastructure. Field operations includes facilities and parks maintenance, landscaping, and parking operations.
Joel has been with the Port since 1995. In addition to his current role, Joel has also served as Director of Maritime, Trade Development Manager, Management Analyst, and Human Resources Analyst. He worked for the County of San Diego prior to joining the Port.
Joel has a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of California, San Diego and two master’s degrees from San Diego State University – one in public administration, the other in business administration.
Outside of work, Joel enjoys traveling with his husband and daughter, reading, and watching films.
