Port of San Diego Invites Public to Upcoming Board Meeting and Open House on Port Master Plan Update

The Port of San Diego invites the public to attend the latest engagement opportunities for stakeholders during the drafting and discussion of the Port Master Plan Update.  

  • Tuesday, November 14, 2017: The Board of Port Commissioners will hold a workshop to discuss Coastal Access and Recreation Element Policy Concepts and Land and Water Use Element Policy Concepts. The Board will also discuss policy concepts and updated land and water use maps for the Coronado Bayfront, Silver Strand, Imperial Beach Oceanfront and South Bay Planning Districts. The workshops will be an item within the regular Board meeting agenda, which begins in open session at 1 p.m. in the Port of San Diego Administration Building, 3165 Pacific Highway, San Diego 92101.
  • Wednesday, November 15, 2017: The public is invited to participate in Open House #4, during which Port staff will recap the November 14, 2017 Board meeting discussion on the Coastal Access and Recreation Element Policy Concepts and Land and Water Use Element Policy Concepts, and will hold informal breakout sessions for participants to ask questions, provide input and dialogue with project team members. The event will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Port of San Diego Administration Building, 3165 Pacific Highway, San Diego 92101.

Port of San Diego to Hold Job Fair Regarding Potential Opportunities for Tenth Avenue Marine Terminal Redevelopment and Other Local Projects

The Port of San Diego is holding a job fair for opportunities with the upcoming Tenth Avenue Marine Terminal Redevelopment Project, other local projects, and the Port itself. The event is scheduled for Saturday, November 4, 2017 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at San Diego Continuing Education, César E. Chávez Campus, 1901 Main Street, San Diego, CA 92113.

Dick Miller, Inc. of San Marcos has been selected for a $12.3 million contract under the first of three contract packages for Phase 1 of the redevelopment project. Also referred to as the Tenth Avenue Marine Terminal Modernization Project, Phase 1 is a major public works project to make the terminal more modern, clean and efficient. The Port is targeting this outreach to the neighborhoods around the terminal to ensure local workers know about the job opportunities that will be available on this $24 million project, which benefits from federal funding, a TIGER grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation.

Approximately 200 Sailing Yachts to Take Part in Annual Baja Ha-ha Event October 30

Baja Ha-ha 2016Baja Ha-ha, an annual sailing event that attracts recreational boaters from up and down the West Coast will take place on Monday, October 30, 2017 in San Diego Bay. The event is known as the largest off-shore rally on the West Coast, and the second largest in the world, with participants sailing from San Diego Bay to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.

About 200 sailing yachts will kick off the event with a colorful maritime parade that begins off the shores of Shelter Island. The Port of San Diego Harbor Police will conduct a water display with lights and sirens at 9:50 a.m. and a traditional starting gun send-off from a historical America’s Cup starting gun will mark the start of the parade.

Port of San Diego Honored with Three Environmental Awards from the Association of Environmental Professionals San Diego Chapter

The Port of San Diego was recently honored with three prestigious environmental awards from the Association of Environmental Professionals San Diego Chapter. The awards were presented at the Chapter’s annual award night event, held October 5, 2017.

In the category of Outstanding Environmental Analysis Document, the Port brought home the top award for the San Diego Bay and Imperial Beach Oceanfront Fireworks Display Events Project Environmental Impact Report (EIR). The EIR summarizes the project, identifies each significant effect, with proposed mitigation measures and alternatives that would reduce or avoid that effect. It also identifies the areas of controversy, including issues raised by the public and summarizes the issues to be resolved, including the choice alternatives and how to mitigate the significant effects. This project will allow for the continuation of fireworks display shows in and around San Diego Bay and Imperial Beach, thereby activating District tidelands.
