Port of San Diego Names New District Clerk

Donna Morales 2The Port of San Diego is pleased to name Donna Morales as its new District Clerk. Morales, who was sworn in as District Clerk on January 2, 2018, previously served as the Port’s Manager of Commissioner and Executive Services. In that position, she managed the staff that provides administrative support to the Board of Port Commissioners.

As District Clerk, Morales is responsible for maintaining the Port District Code and ensuring compliance with the governances of the Public Records Act, the Brown Act, the Political Reform Act, the Port’s Ethics Policy and Robert’s Rules of Order. She will also manage and direct the Office of the District Clerk, which includes docket coordination for Board of Port Commissioners meetings and Board committees. Additionally, Morales will oversee Port-wide records management programs and responses to Public Records Act requests.

Port of San Diego Celebrates Beginning of Tenth Avenue Marine Terminal Modernization Project

 TAMT wall downThe Port of San Diego celebrated the start of a $24 million public works project that will modernize its Tenth Avenue Marine Terminal. On January 23, 2018, Chairman Rafael Castellanos was joined by U.S. Representative Scott Peters, City of San Diego Mayor Kevin L. Faulconer, City of San Diego Councilmember David Alvarez, Port Vice Chairman Garry Bonelli, Port Commissioners Robert “Dukie” Valderrama and Marshall Merrifield, International Longshore & Warehouse Union Local 29 President Anthony Soniga and Working Waterfront Group Co-Chair Dennis Dubard, along with other officials including Port Chief Executive Officer Randa Coniglio in a special event that included tearing down a wall of a warehouse destined to be demolished.

Referred to as the Modernization, the project will remove two obsolete warehouses and create much-needed laydown area for larger project cargo. It will also include improvements to utilities, new lighting and pavement. Also as part of the project, new modular office space, utility enclosures and restrooms will be added, as well as on-dock rail improvements.

Harbor Police Invites Public to “Coffee with a Cop” Community Engagement Event

Coffee CopAs part of efforts to build relationships in the community, the Port of San Diego Harbor Police Department invites the public to the agency’s very first “Coffee with a Cop” event. The mission of “Coffee with a Cop” is to break down barriers between police officers and the citizens we serve, one cup at a time, and allow people to interact with local law enforcement in a friendly, relaxed environment.

“Coffee with a Cop” will be held 8 to 10 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 10, 2018, at the Port Pavilion on Broadway Pier, 1000 North Harbor Drive, San Diego, CA 92101. The event includes a free cup of coffee for each attendee and the opportunity to engage in casual conversation with Harbor Police officers or to ask general and specific questions.

Port of San Diego Hosts “Carnival in the Park: Artistic Performances by Fern Street Circus”

Fern Street CircusThe Port of San Diego invites the public to enjoy a free afternoon of activities and performances by the Fern Street Circus on Saturday, February 17, 2018. The event, “Carnival in the Park: Artistic Performances by Fern Street Circus,” is being provided as a Port of San Diego experience for the entertainment of the community at Cesar Chavez Park, the Port’s waterfront park in Barrio Logan. Activities will be available from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The park is located at 1449 Cesar E. Chavez Parkway, San Diego.

This exciting family-friendly waterfront activation event will feature creative artistic performances by the Fern Street Circus including jugglers, aerialists, acrobats, musicians and more. There will also be interactive workshops on hooping and tightwire, along with carnival games, raffles and free refreshments including cotton candy, hot dogs, agua fresca, prizes, giveaways, and much more.
