The Port of San Diego has been awarded $4.8 million from the California Natural Resources Agency for its Sweetwater Bicycle Path and Promenade project, a component of the Port’s Chula Vista Bayfront development. The Sweetwater Bicycle Path and Promenade project will consist of a three-quarter mile Class I bike path and pedestrian walkway linking the regional Bayshore Bikeway to waterfront amenities and future development sites on the Chula Vista Bayfront. The proposed budget for the Sweetwater Bicycle Path and Promenade project is $5.63 million.
“This is great news and will be important in helping us meet an important objective for the Chula Vista Bayfront – to provide a continuous bike path and walkway, fully accessible to the public,” said Chairman Robert “Dukie” Valderrama, Board of Port Commissioners, Port of San Diego. “We’re thrilled that the state recognizes the value and benefits of this project, not only to the South Bay and the entire San Diego region, but to all of California.”
“What a great opportunity for residents and visitors to enjoy this new multi-modal bike path along the Chula Vista Bayfront,” said Chula Vista Mayor Mary Casillas Salas. “This project will help us showcase the natural beauty we have along the San Diego Bay.”
