The Imperial Beach Pier maintenance project is underway. As an update, for public safety, the pier will be closed from November 25-27, during working hours and reopening at 5:30 p.m. every evening. The full closure will allow crews to safely perform some of the pile driving activity needed as a part of the maintenance project that started on November 18, 2024. The Port currently anticipates the pier to fully reopen to the public in time for Thanksgiving. The Port appreciates the public’s understanding and patience on this unanticipated schedule change and will provide further updates as needed.
As a part of a maintenance project the Port, is replacing two pilings to maintain the structural integrity of Imperial Beach’s beloved pier, ensuring it can be enjoyed by visitors and the community for generations to come. The project will also include localized deck board replacement and utility piping work. Below is the updated schedule for the Thanksgiving week:
- November 25-27 – full closure during working hours with public access in the evening starting at 5:30 p.m.
- November 28 – pier fully open
Future deck board replacement work and utility piping work may require partial pier closures or short full pier closures. More details on those potential closures will be released at a later date. The project is anticipated to be completed in summer 2025. Details and updates on this project can be found at portofsandiego.org/IBPierProject.
If there are delays or changes in the scheduled work, updates with new planned closure dates will be communicated to the public through the Port’s webpage portofsandiego.org/IBPierProject.
