Performance Program: Call for Artists

The Port of San Diego’s Waterfront Arts & Activation department produces free community-focused events showcasing a variety of artistic performances around the San Diego Bay. These performances take the form of temporary pop-up artistic explorations as well as larger orchestrated free community events. Performances range from dance, theatre, and music, to new media, contemporary performance art, and interactive artworks. The current curatorial objective is to identify performance groups/artists to add to the Port’s 2019 - 2021 cultural programming.

This Call for Artists invites artists and organizations to submit their qualifications for providing cultural performances to take place along the waterfront throughout District tidelands. Application materials will include a statement of intent, budgets, examples of past work and a resume/CV.

Selected performance groups/artists will contract with the Port of San Diego on an as-needed basis. Performances will be programmed based on activation needs. An award of a contract is not a guarantee that performance services will be needed.

Requests to Exhibit on Tidelands

The Port of San Diego conducts an annual review of external requests from sponsors who want to temporarily exhibit artwork or objects on Port property or donate artwork or objects to the Port of San Diego.  This review process enables the Port to effectively evaluate proposals and plan workload around projects on an annual basis. Sponsors are strongly encouraged to submit applications well in advance of desired installation time frames to ensure adequate time for conceptual development, evaluations, and internal review processes.

Applications for the 2020 review cycle are due no later than January 31, 2020 at 5PM
