The Chula Vista-based nonprofit Metropolitan Area Advisory Committee (MAAC) is the Port of San Diego’s Anchors of Excellence awardee for May. MAAC is honored for its continued service to the public in the areas of community education and wellness. Port Chair Danielle Moore presented the award at the May 6 Board of Port Commissioners meeting.

“The Port of San Diego is honored to recognize the Metropolitan Area Advisory Committee (MAAC) with an Anchors of Excellence Award,” said Chair Danielle Moore of the Board of Port Commissioners. “For more than five decades, MAAC has been a trusted partner and pillar in our region—helping individuals and families achieve stability, self-sufficiency, and hope through affordable housing, early childhood education, job training, and wraparound services. This award honors not only the impact they’ve made, but the values they embody—equity, dignity, and opportunity for all.”

MAAC is dedicated to building resilient communities and empowering individuals, whether through education initiatives, advocacy efforts, or direct support for impacted families. Through programs like MAAC Community Charter School, they also equip young leaders with tools to advocate for change in their own communities. Their economic development initiatives support families in rebuilding their lives with access to job training, financial education, and small business resources.

"MAAC is grateful to the Port of San Diego for the Anchors of Excellence Award,” said Adolfo Ventura, Chief Programs and Operations Officer for MAAC. “Our work in the community focused on economic mobility would not be possible without our incredible partners who support our work. We are excited to celebrate our 60th anniversary in the community and look forward to a bright future serving San Diego."
