Public Invited to View 46th Annual Parade of Lights Presented by the Port of San Diego Dec. 10 and 17

Parade of Lights Residents and visitors of the region are welcomed to experience a captivating display of holiday lights during the San Diego Bay Parade of Lights, taking place Sunday, December 10 and Sunday, December 17, 2017. Presented by the Port of San Diego, this unique and inspiring event will feature approximately 80 vessels festively lit for the holiday season and three free public viewing areas with seating.

This year, the parade kicks off at 5 p.m. both Sundays at Shelter Island. The route proceeds to Harbor Island, the North Embarcadero area, Seaport Village, Cesar Chavez Park and then turns south to the Ferry Landing on Coronado. The entire procession takes about two hours, typically ending around 7 p.m.

The San Diego Bay Parade of Lights can be viewed from almost any area along the north and central parts of San Diego Bay. Ideal viewing areas include Shelter Island Park, Harbor Island Park, Spanish Landing Park, Embarcadero Marina Parks North and South, and Coronado Tidelands Park.

Port of San Diego Awarded $4.8 Million Grant for Chula Vista Bayfront Project

Site Plan Draft The Port of San Diego has been awarded $4.8 million from the California Natural Resources Agency for its Sweetwater Bicycle Path and Promenade project, a component of the Port’s Chula Vista Bayfront development. The Sweetwater Bicycle Path and Promenade project will consist of a three-quarter mile Class I bike path and pedestrian walkway linking the regional Bayshore Bikeway to waterfront amenities and future development sites on the Chula Vista Bayfront. The proposed budget for the Sweetwater Bicycle Path and Promenade project is $5.63 million.

“This is great news and will be important in helping us meet an important objective for the Chula Vista Bayfront – to provide a continuous bike path and walkway, fully accessible to the public,” said Chairman Robert “Dukie” Valderrama, Board of Port Commissioners, Port of San Diego. “We’re thrilled that the state recognizes the value and benefits of this project, not only to the South Bay and the entire San Diego region, but to all of California.”

“What a great opportunity for residents and visitors to enjoy this new multi-modal bike path along the Chula Vista Bayfront,” said Chula Vista Mayor Mary Casillas Salas. “This project will help us showcase the natural beauty we have along the San Diego Bay.”

“In accordance with the Port’s Climate Action Plan, we work hard to develop programs that encourage the safekeeping of the environment,” said Port Chairman Robert “Dukie” Valderrama. “This award recognizes our efforts and highlights the many effective initiatives and events our Green Team launched to encourage Port employees to opt for eco-friendly methods of transportation.”
