Port of San Diego Cruise Ship Terminal Offers Free Wi-Fi

The Port of San Diego is adding its name to the list of public Wi-Fi hotspots.
As a courtesy to cruise ship passengers, the Port has activated Wi-Fi Internet service within the B Street Pier Cruise Ship terminal to lead them to local businesses and attractions.
The service, called OpenPort, offers users four hours of Wi-Fi access, free of charge at a lower bandwidth. Higher speed access is also available for all-day use at $5 per day.
Port of San Diego to Host Federal Grant Workshop

The Port of San Diego is hosting a unique workshop designed to help train nonprofits, counties and municipalities in pursuing federal funding opportunities.
Port staff partnered with The Grantsmanship Center in Los Angeles for the five-day event, "Competing for Federal Grants." The training workshop will take place March 15-19, 2010 at the Port of San Diego Administration Building, located at 3165 Pacific Highway (map) in San Diego.
Floats Taking Shape For Big Bay Balloon Parade

When the Port of San Diego’s 19th Annual Big Bay Balloon Parade takes sail at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2009, spectators will be entertained by some real characters. Besides Grand Marshall “Jack Box” of fast-food giant Jack in the Box, the Weenie Waddlers, the Newspaper Dog and the Invisible Drill Team will be parading along Harbor Drive.
Among the floats will be the two built by Steven Mansueto’s Manmade Entertainment, one for Cox Communications, and one for San Diego Family Magazine, whose float was designed by a local elementary student. Mansueto and his work crew will spend roughly 10 hours assembling each float at a warehouse on the Tenth Avenue Marine Terminal.

At 10 a.m. on Wednesday, December 30, 2009, a face familiar to San Diego and beyond will be floating down Harbor Drive on the north Embarcadero of San Diego Bay. "Jack Box," of Jack in the Box fast food fame, will lead the 19th annual Port of San Diego Big Bay Balloon Parade as the event's grand marshal. Jack in the Box was founded in San Diego in 1951 and since then has been a household name in 17 states.

Do you have a program or event that needs a little boost getting off the ground? If so, the Port of San Diego is looking for you.
Events or programs that contribute to the community by promoting commerce, navigation, fisheries and recreation in one or more of the tideland cities of San Diego, Chula Vista, Coronado, Imperial Beach and National City may qualify for cash funding and/or Port services. Applications are being accepted until 5 p.m. on Friday, November 6, 2009.

The Port of San Diego is excited to offer a new series of free bus tours that will take members of the public along the tidelands and behind the scenes of the Working Waterfront.
New this fall, participants can choose to start their tour in one of the Port’s two member cities; Chula Vista or Coronado. On the narrated, two-hour tour, the public will learn about San Diego Bay and what is the Port and tenants are doing to protect the tidelands, become familiar with Port operations, see shipbuilding and repair facilities, and get an up-close look at both the Tenth Avenue Marine Terminal as well as the National City Marine Terminal.
