Seaport Village Festival to Thrill Crowds of All Ages
San Diego’s Seaport Village invites the public to “busk a move” with the nation’s top sword-swallowing, fire-eating and beat-making performers at the 2010 Busker Festival on Saturday, April 10 and Sunday, April 11.
A busker is a professional street performer who performs for tips in public venues worldwide. The two-day festival on the Big Bay is the only one in Southern California. The San Diego show features 10 different competing performers on the bay front village.
From 12 to 5 p.m., comical jugglers, tumblers, magicians, high-skill circus acts and a variety of musicians will showcase their talents at the top of every hour in Seaport Village’s west plaza and every half hour in the east plaza.
“New this year, enthusiasts of the bizarre talents can also share their own skills for the first-ever ‘Busk a Move’ blog contest,” said Megan Capizzi, marketing manager of Seaport Village. “Adults, children and pets can submit videos by April 1, to be judged for a chance to win a two-night stay at Embassy Suites San Diego, two Seaport Village meal vouchers, two historic carousel rides and two VIP shopping passes.”
There will also be special performances from Mango and Dango, the first Busker Festival’s People’s Choice Award recipients, as well as Project Dynamite, winners of the second festival, along with other renowned performers from across the U.S., Capizzi said.
To entertain the 18 and older crowd, the event will continue into the night on Saturday, April 10. Buskers After Dark runs from 7 to 10 p.m. at Seaport Village's food court area in the western plaza, sponsored by San Diego City Beat and Yelp.com. It features live music, and eateries will stay open late to serve food and drinks.
Seaport Village is located at West Harbor Drive and Pacific Highway (directions), adjacent to Embarcadero Park North. Visitors receive two hours of free validated parking with any purchase. For more information or to enter the “Busk a Move” video contest, call 619-235-4014, or visit www.seaportvillage.com.
