Port Commission Approves Artistic Team For Lighting San Diego-Coronado Bay Bridge

Port Commissioners have embraced a selection panel’s recommendation of a combined European and North American artist-led design team to artistically light the iconic San Diego-Coronado Bay Bridge.

The Board of Port Commissioners accepted the recommendation at its monthly meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2010.  The team will be lead by London-based artist Peter Fink of FoRM Associates in collaboration with Speirs and Major Associates and Buro Happold. The team was selected over two other finalists, the Bideau Company and the team of Ned Kahn/ Patrick McInerney/Arup.

Public Art Panel Selects Team To Light San Diego-Coronado Bay Bridge

A public art selection panel –  comprised of experts in art, architecture, lighting and green energy – is recommending a combined European and North American team to artistically light the San Diego-Coronado Bay Bridge. The team will be lead by artist Peter Fink of FoRM Associates in collaboration with Speirs and Major Associates and Buro Happold.

The panel selected the Peter Fink team over two other finalists, the Bideau Company and the team of Ned Kahn/ Patrick McInerney/ Arup.

“Future Champion” Sculpture Unveiled at San Diego Yacht Club

A life-size bronze sculpture of a 10-year-old sailor steering a sailboat now graces the entrance of San Diego Yacht Club in Point Loma.

 Titled “Future Champion,” the $87,000 artwork was unveiled on July 3, 2010.

Port to Present San Diego-Coronado Bay Bridge Lighting Concepts at Open House in Barrio Logan

The Port of San Diego will be hosting a public open house on Tuesday, July 6, 2010, to present the video concepts from three artist-led teams selected as finalists in a project to illuminate the San Diego-Coronado Bay Bridge with artistic lighting.

The workshop will be held from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the former Housing Commission building, located at 1625 Newton Avenue, Suite C, San Diego (Map).
