Construction on the North Embarcadero Visionary Plan Phase I project will soon be kicked into high gear.

The project will transform the San Diego bay front along North Harbor Drive from Navy Pier to the B Street Pier and along West Broadway from the railroad tracks to North Harbor Drive.

Currently, San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E) is working on relocating and improving its underground utilities to pave the way for moving North Harbor Drive to the east to allow more room for a pedestrian promenade.

Port to Host Meeting for Lane Field Public Open Space

The Port of San Diego is inviting the public to attend a meeting on a proposed park-plaza for San Diego's Lane Field on Thursday, Jan. 19, 2012.

The meeting will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the Training Room at the Port of San Diego's Administration Building, 3165 Pacific Highway, San Diego (map).

Under sunny skies, more than 200 people gathered at the San Diego Bay waterfront – at the corner of North Harbor Drive and West Broadway – to attend a groundbreaking ceremony for the North Embarcadero Visionary Plan Phase 1 project on January 5, 2012.

Port of San Diego, City of San Diego, and Centre City Development Corporation officials lined up and proudly shoveled a mound of dirt to signify the start of the $28.6 million project that was in the planning stages for 15 years.

Project to Beautify San Diego’s Waterfront to Break Ground January 5

After 15 years of public planning and collaboration, a project that beautifies the San Diego waterfront will finally begin.

The North Embarcadero Visionary Plan Phase I Project, which incorporates an area on North Harbor Drive - from the Navy Pier to the B Street Pier and a portion of West Broadway - will break ground Thursday, January 5, 2012, at 10:00 a.m. The event is open to the public.

The Port of San Diego, City of San Diego and Centre City Development Corporation (CCDC) will celebrate its start with a groundbreaking ceremony on the western edge of Lane Field, located at the corner of West Broadway and North Harbor Drive.
