Harbor Police Blotter

At approximately 2310, 07/19/08, a charter vessel cruising in San Diego Bay reported a "man overboard". The call for help was sent to the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) via Marine VHF Channel 16 by the Captain of the excursion boat. Two Harbor Police boats and a USCG patrol vessel responded to the call for assistance.

The San Diego Harbor Police Dispatchers received a call of a motor vehicle versus a motorcycle collision at 1880 Harbor Island Drive, San Diego, CA. Upon arrival of the Harbor Police, several persons administering CPR were attending to the operator of the motorcycle.

   

Vessel Fire in San Diego Bay

The San Diego Harbor Police received a distress call on the Marine radio by a boater calling "MAYDAY". The caller reported that his vessel was on fire and that he was south of the Coronado Bridge in San Diego Bay.

   

Identity Theft Arrest

A local resident was arrested on Thursday, June 6, for possession of a stolen vehicle and identity theft.Ā  The subject was arrested on Shelter Island and is currently being held at the Las Colinas Women's Detention Facility in Santee.Ā  Harbor Police Investigators are continuing to investigate the incident.

   

Vessel Rescue

On May 18, 2008 at approximately 9:50PM the Harbor Police received a call to assist in the search for a vessel in distress in the kelp beds off the Point Loma lighthouse. Harbor Police dispatched patrol boats and landside units to search for the vessel. The United States Coast Guard, San Diego Life Guards, San Diego Police helicopter, Department of Defense Police and U.S. Navy Police also sent units to search for the vessel. At approximately 10:35PM Harbor Police landside units were able to locate the vessel in distress by using a night vision device. The San Diego Police helicopter and police vessel units were directed to the location by the Harbor Police landside units. At 22:42PM a Harbor Police patrol boat arrived at the distressed vessel and determined no one onboard was injured. The Harbor Police patrol boat took the distressed vessel in tow and removed it from the kelp beds until it was in a safe area and the operator was able to take command.
