Officer of the Year
The Harbor Police Department provides law enforcement services on San Diego Bay from Point Loma to the protected wetlands and wildlife habitats in Chula Vista. Two 35 foot patrol boats are on duty 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and are crewed by two officers who act as Boat Handler and Crewman. Their responsibilities include enforcing local and state laws as well as educating the boating public in Navigation Rules and Boating Safety. The boats are equipped to provide emergency rescue services for people and boats in trouble during emergencies and poor weather. During special events, like the 4th of July Fireworks displays, a third patrol vessel can be activated to provide additional support for the thousands of vessels that turn out for the celebrations.
