Labels: Press ReleasesNews

Harbor Police officers have arrested a man wanted in connection with a series of thefts from waterfront hotels.

The suspect, identified by Harbor Police as Vincent Richardson, 50, a San Diego resident, was taken into custody on Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2011. He was arrested after a brief chase by San Diego Marriott Hotel & Marina security officers, who were tipped about a possible theft.

Richardson was detained by hotel security agents, before the arrival of the Harbor Police. The suspect had a laptop, which allegedly was taken minutes earlier from an unoccupied Marriott guest room, police said.

Harbor Police said Richardson is suspected of targeting waterfront hotels. Harbor Police Detective Michael Dye said that Richardson is accused in multiple thefts that the department was alerted to late last month.

Detective Dye estimates the value of the stolen items exceeded $12,000.

Richardson was booked into San Diego County Jail. He is charged with multiple counts of burglary, possession of stolen property and grand theft.

The Harbor Police Department is the law enforcement arm of the Port of San Diego. The department employs 132 officers, with each trained as firefighters and police officers. Officers provide law enforcement services for San Diego Bay, San Diego International Airport and the port's five member cities – San Diego, National City, Coronado, Chula Vista and Imperial Beach.
