Suspect Arrested in Felony Sex Offense Involving Child

Port of San Diego Harbor Police have arrested a suspect in a felony sex offense case involving a child that was reported on Tuesday, July 3, 2018 at about 7:13 p.m.
In that incident, Port of San Diego Harbor Police responded to a report that a man was harassing children in the pool area of a hotel located at 1380 Harbor Island Drive. Upon arrival, Harbor Police officers learned that a man had performed a lewd act on a child under 14 years of age. The suspect was described as a white male adult, 5’10” to 5’11” tall, 50-60 years old, with golden blond hair and a faded tattoo on his chest; he left the scene after he was confronted by hotel security prior to police arrival.
Harbor Police detectives conducted an investigation and identified the man as 66-year-old Douglas Richard Madruga of San Diego, a registered sex offender. On Thursday, July 12, Harbor Police detectives arrested Madruga on two felony counts of performing a lewd act on a child under 14 and two felony counts of harassing or molesting a child under 18.
Harbor Police detectives executed a search warrant of the suspect’s house, seized several items, and are continuing the investigation.
