Port of San Diego Commissioner Robert “Dukie” Valderrama Honored by Southwestern College Foundation

Port of San Diego Commissioner Robert “Dukie” Valderrama has received a 2019 Jaguar Award from the Southwestern College Foundation. The foundation recognized him at its annual awards dinner held November 8, 2019 at Sycuan Casino Resort.
The Southwestern College Foundation’s annual program honors outstanding individuals who embody excellence, generosity, passion, integrity and have demonstrated a stalwart support for Southwestern College and its students.
“I am honored and humbled to be recognized with a 2019 Southwestern College Foundation Jaguar Award,” said Commissioner Valderrama. “It means so much to me to be part of foundation that has helped so many students through trusted stewardships and meaningful community partnerships.”
Commissioner Valderrama is a Southwestern College alumnus and former Southwestern College Foundation Board member. He has served on the Board of Port Commissioners as the City of National City’s representative since 2005. He was the owner of A-D&D Drywall, Inc. and West Coast Scaffolding, Inc. and has served on numerous public and private boards, including the San Diego County Water Board, San Diego Bowl Game Association, South County Economic Development Council, California Professional Association of Specialty Contractors, and the California Construction Council.
Each year the Southwestern College Foundation presents two Jaguar Awards to community leaders. This year’s second Jaguar Award went to J. Michael Straczynski, another Southwestern College Alumnus. He is an award-winning television screenwriter, author, producer, director and comic book writer.
