Port to Sponsor 64 Events on the San Diego Bay Waterfront in FY 2019/2020

The Board of Port Commissioners has approved $430,200 in funding and $1,093,887 in services for 64 special events to be held on the San Diego Bay waterfront during fiscal year 2019/2020. The sponsorships are part of the Port of San Diego’s Tidelands Activation Program, an annual grant program that supports events, large and small, that engage the community and inspire visitors to enjoy San Diego Bay.

This year, 77 applications for sponsorships were received. Sponsorship criteria requires that the event take place in the Port’s jurisdiction on San Diego Bay, which includes 22 public parks throughout the Port’s member cities of Chula Vista, Coronado, Imperial Beach, National City and San Diego. It also includes Broadway Pier and the Port Pavilion, B Street Pier and the Cruise Ship Terminal, the National City Aquatic Center, and public open spaces along San Diego Bay and the oceanfront of Imperial Beach. Events are selected through a rigorous public evaluation process led by the Tidelands Activation Committee, which includes members of the community.

“The Tidelands Activation Program supports the Port’s efforts of having a vibrant, creative and active waterfront. It gives residents and visitors an opportunity to enjoy the waterfront, while putting the spotlight on the Port’s recreational amenities and open space,” said Garry Bonelli, Chairman of the Board of Port Commissioners. “We’ll be having a multitude of diverse activities along the waterfront – yoga in the parks, fireworks over San Diego Bay, music festivals, and so much more. There will definitely be something for everyone.”

Of the 64 events receiving funding, service fee waivers, or both, eight are signature events and 56 are community events.

Following is the list of sponsored events by date. Please note that some dates may change. For the most up to date information, please visit the Port’s Tidelands Activation Program webpage.
