The Port of San Diego operates parking meters and pay stations along North Embarcadero, Tuna Harbor, Ruocco Park, Embarcadero Marina Park North and Embarcadero Marina Park South, the Crescent area, Spanish Landing and Shelter Island.

Hours and Rates - Parking rate increase and decrease coming July 1, 2017

FREE METER AND PAY STATION HOLIDAYS:

Read your meter or pay station display.  If your parking meter or pay station is labeled that it is not enforced on the holidays, then parking meters or pay stations are free on these specific holidays, citations will not be issued for non-payment on these days. The Port currently recognizes the following one-day parking holidays:

  • New Year’s Day (January 1st)
  • Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day (January 15th)
  • Memorial Day (May 28th)
  • Independence Day (July 4th)
  • Labor Day (September 3rd)
  • Columbus Day (October 8th)
  • Veteran’s Day (November 11th)
  • Thanksgiving Day (November 22nd)
  • Christmas Day (December 25th) 

*PLEASE NOTE: The City of San Diego may observe holidays on different days.


HOW DO METERS WORK?

Traditional Meters (on Shelter Island only):

  • Coins: Insert coins for desired time.  Use nickels, dimes, quarters and dollar coins (pennies will cause the meter to jam and will not count for time).
  • Cards: These meters do not accept credit or debit cards; they only take City of San Diego Pre-Paid Cards.

 Smart Meters:

  • Coins: Insert coins for desired time.  Use nickels, dimes, quarters and dollar coins (pennies will cause the meter to jam and will not count for time).
  • Cards: These meters accept credit cards (Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Discover), debit cards and City of San Diego Pre-Paid Cards. Insert and remove card (follow the instructions on meter), adjust payment amount with + and – buttons; complete transaction by pressing the green “OK” button.

*There is a $1.00 minimum for use of Credit/Debit Cards.

Insert and remove card (follow the instructions on meter), adjust payment amount with + and – buttons; complete transaction by pressing the green “OK” button. Take the ticket the machine issues and place and display on driver side of dashboard.

NEED A RECEIPT?

Payments made with a credit/debit card at any Port of San Diego smart meter or pay station may now be viewed and printed online! 

*Parking receipts are available 24 hours after the transaction date


 MALFUNCTIONING METERS OR PAYSTATIONS

Meter or pay station problems should be reported to Parking @ the Port’s main line 619-686-6464.  Yellow stickers located on the meter or pay station, reflect this contact number for your convenience.  Regular business hours are Monday through Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and every other Friday.  This line is only answered during business hours, an after-hours voicemail is in place for you to leave a message and your call will be returned the next business day.  If you have reached us after-hours and have a stuck credit card, you will be able to press 5 and transferred to Harbor Police Dispatch for immediate assistance. Please have the meter/pay station number when reporting the problem.  The number is located below the yellow meter contact sticker.

If you receive a citation for a non-payment and you believe the meter/pay station was malfunctioning, you may choose to appeal the citation.

If your vehicle has been towed within Port tidelands, please contact (619-686-6272) Harbor Police.


PERMIT PARKING SPACES

The Port has various permit spaces designated for the use of Port employees for Port business-only, which include maintenance crew, landscaping crew, Harbor Police Officers/staff and any other Port employee vehicle (with a Port permit sticker). Private vehicles parked in these spaces are in violation and will be cited and/or towed at the owners expense (San Diego Unified Port Code Section 8.16/8.17)


Disabled Person Parking

According to the California Department of Motor Vehicles: A disabled person (DP) or disabled veteran (DV) displaying special license plates or a distinguishing placard are allowed to park at any of the following zones:

At No Charge:

  • In parking spaces with the International Symbol of Access (wheelchair symbol).
  • Next to a blue curb authorized for handicapped parking.
  • Next to a green curb (green curb indicate limited time parking), no more than seventy-two (72) consecutive hours.
  • At on-street metered parking space.

Limitations:

  • In spaces marked with a crosshatched pattern next to a parking space with the International Symbol of Access (wheelchair symbol). These spaces are for wheelchair and wheelchair lift access.
  • Next to red curbs, which indicate no stopping, standing, or parking.
  • Next to yellow curbs, which are for commercial vehicles to load and unload passengers or freight.
  • Next to white curbs, which are for loading and unloading passengers or depositing mail in an adjacent mailbox. 
  • Garages & Surface Lots (Off-Street Parking): Disabled parking spaces are available in all off-street parking lots and garages. However, patrons who choose to park in these facilities are obligated to pay any applicable parking rates. This applies to both private and public off-street parking garages and parking lots. California Vehicle Code privileges for free parking with a disabled placards and license plates only apply to on-street parking. For privately owned off-street garages and parking lots which do not charge fees, vehicles with disabled placards must abide by any posted ordinances or restrictions for those facilities.
  • 72 hour parking limit: Vehicles are not allowed to park for more than Seventy-Two (72) consecutive hours. This Seventy-Two (72) hour limitation applies to any street, parking lot or parking area within the San Diego Unified Port District's jurisdiction, regardless of any other posted parking designations and/or restrictions (San Diego Unified Port Code Section 8.16)
