Shaun D. Sumner

Assistant Vice President, Real Estate Development

Shaun D. Sumner was appointed in January 2016 to Assistant Vice President of Operations overseeing the Port of San Diego’s Real Estate and Development Services departments. The Port’s Chief Technology Officer also reports to Sumner. Sumner began his career at the Port in September 2000 as an intern in Human Resources before moving on to a position with Marketing where he was responsible for developing and maintaining the Port’s websites and related applications and databases. From there, Sumner attended law school in the evening and moved into the Port’s Real Estate department where he obtained extensive business experience in negotiating complex ground leases for commercial development and securing entitlements within California’s coastal zone. Sumner graduated Magna Cum Laude in the Honors Program at University of San Diego, earning a bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary humanities. He also holds a law degree from the University of San Diego.
