Harbor Police Lauded for Contributions in the Field of Critical Incident Stress Management

Three members of the Port of San Diego’s Harbor Police Department have been honored by the International Critical Incident Stress Foundation (ICISF) for their contributions in the field of Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM).

Acting Assistant Police Chief Kirk Nichols, Lieutenant James Jordan and Officer Cynthia Markley of the Port of San Diego Harbor Police Department all received the San Diego Regional Training Certificate of Appreciation at an awards ceremony held December 8, 2017 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in San Diego.

CISM is a method of helping first responders and others who have been involved with traumatic events that may emotionally or physically affect them. The ICISF is an organization that provides training and support services in comprehensive crisis intervention and disaster behavioral health services to emergency response professions worldwide.

Port of San Diego Approves Pilot Project to Demonstrate a System to Remove Debris from San Diego Bay

The Port of San Diego Blue Economy Pilot ProgramAs a leader of the Blue Economy in the San Diego region and as champions for the safekeeping and environmental care of our diverse ecosystems, the Port of San Diego is entering into an agreement with Zephyr Debris Removal LLC for a one-year pilot project to demonstrate a system to remove marine debris from San Diego Bay.

“Zephyr’s project is a great way to kick off the year and fits my 2018 theme, ‘Ocean Optimism,’ which is the belief that we should be incredibly optimistic about the potential of the ocean economy, the Blue Economy, to be our greatest source of opportunity,” said Chairman Rafael Castellanos, Board of Port Commissioners. “Through our Blue Economy Incubator, projects like this support our position as a catalyst of our water-dependent economy while also ensuring San Diego Bay remains a vibrant resource for visitors and residents for generations to come.”

Port of San Diego Advances Bayside Performance Park Enhancement Project Proposed by the San Diego Symphony

In support of efforts to inspire residents and visitors by providing unique experiences on San Diego Bay, the Port of San Diego Board of Port Commissioners has voted to advance the San Diego Symphony’s Bayside Performance Park Enhancement Project, proposed for the Port’s Embarcadero Marina Park South.

Symphony Project Rendering v2“The San Diego Symphony has a great track record with the Port and is a pillar of the San Diego arts community,” said Chairman Rafael Castellanos, Board of Port Commissioners. “Their proposal to invest $45 million in improvements, including many public amenities and better performance facilities, strikes a new and wonderful chord on our dynamic waterfront, honors the water and creates a dynamic new place on our beautiful San Diego Bay for the public to enjoy.”

The Port of San Diego swore in its 2018 Board of Port Commissioners Executive Officers on Tuesday, January 9, 2018 during ceremonies held at the Port Pavilion on Broadway Pier and at the Port Administration Building.

castellanos moore bonelli Rafael Castellanos, one of three City of San Diego Commissioners, was sworn in as Chairman; and Garry J. Bonelli, who represents the City of Coronado, was sworn in as Vice Chair at the Port Pavilion. Ann Moore, who represents the City of Chula Vista, was sworn in as Secretary at the Port Administration Building.

During his inauguration speech at the Port Pavilion, Chairman Castellanos stated that his theme for 2018 is "Ocean Optimism."
