Draft Port Master Plan Amendment Prepared for East Harbor Island

Labels: Press ReleasesNews

The Port of San Diego has prepared a draft Port Master Plan Amendment for the East Harbor Island subarea of the Port Master Plan. The PMPA is a guide for the future development and redevelopment of eastern Harbor Island.

The draft PMPA will add public access opportunities to East Harbor Island and allow for the implementation of a proposed project. The project includes development of a 175-room hotel, and reconfiguration of a portion of eastern Harbor Island Drive and the traffic circle at its terminus.

In compliance with the California Coastal Act (Section 30712), the Port District has issued a Notice of Completion and Public Hearing of a draft PMPA. This notifies members of the public, organizations, and governmental agencies of the completion of a draft PMPA and the proposed public hearing for adoption by the Board of Port Commissioners, with or without modification, at their May 10, 2011 meeting.

The public, interested organizations and government agencies are encouraged review the PMPA and submit testimony, statements and evidence relative to the draft PMPA at the public hearing, or in written form prior to the hearing. Written comments should be submitted to the attention of the District Clerk, San Diego Unified Port District, P.O. Box 120488, San Diego, CA 92112-0488.

A companion document, the Final Environmental Impact Report for the Sunroad Harbor Island Hotel Project and East Harbor Island Subarea Port Master Plan Amendment, will also be considered by the Board of Port Commissioners for certification on May 10, 2011.

Questions may be directed to the Environmental and Land Use Management Department at (619) 686-6283.
