Port to Recirculate Portions of Draft Environmental Impact Report for Sunroad Harbor Island Project

Labels: Press ReleasesNews

Portions of the Draft Environmental Impact Report (EIR) for the Sunroad Harbor Island Hotel Project and East Harbor Island subarea Master Plan Amendment are being recirculated to address traffic-related issues that were raised during the initial public review period.

The project involves redeveloping a property located at 955 Harbor Island Drive (map). The property is leased to Sunroad Marina Partners, LP. It includes demolition of a parking lot and a small locker building used by boaters for storage, construction of a four-story 175-room hotel, reconfiguration of paved areas, realignment of a portion of East Harbor Island Drive, reducing the size of a traffic circle and enhanced public access along the water side of the proposed hotel . The project will also realign the existing sewer, water and utility lines.

The Port initially circulated the Draft EIR for this project in December 2009. The document was available for public review for a 45-day period from December 10, 2009 to January 25, 2010.

The Draft EIR evaluated the potential environmental impacts of the project and comments received during the public review period indicated that some of the traffic evaluation criteria needed to be updated.

Comments on the recirculated portions of the Draft EIR may be made during the public review period beginning Wednesday, November 24, 2010 until 4 p.m. on Monday, January 10, 2011. Comments already received on the previous Draft EIR need not be re-submitted.

All comments will be responded to in the Final EIR.
