San Diego Bay Customs Clearance Information
Vessels entering San Diego Bay as their first point of call
from an international voyage must report their arrival
to Customs. Commercial vessels that previously cleared
Customs at B Street pier have been relocated to the West
End Broadway Street Pier, San Diego. Recreational vessels
(greater than 130 feet) must clear Customs at the West
End Broadway Street Pier, San Diego. Recreational vessels,
including corporate yachts, less than 130 feet in length
may clear Customs at the Shelter Island Harbor Police Dock.
This dock is located at the south end of Shelter Island
and is posted "Pleasure Craft Clearance". The
Harbor Police fleet shares the dock.
Commercial Vessels and Recreational Vessels Over
130 Feet in Length
Commercial vessels must clear
Customs at the West End Broadway Street Pier, San Diego.
Recreational vessels (greater than
130 feet) must clear Customs at the West End Broadway Street
Pier, San Diego.
When Cruise Ships are berthed a 100-yard
security zone must be maintained. If a Cruise Ship is berthed
at the Broadway
Pier, Embarcadero-1 should be utilized for a berth to clear
U.S. Customs. Embarcadero-1 berth is located North of the
Maritime Museum along the Embarcadero in front of the County
Administration building.
When a vessel uses the Broadway Pier facility the following
procedure will be used to expedite the process.
After docking
the master of the vessel should contact the U.S. Customs
Service at (619) 685-4300 ext. 4 and request an inspector
respond to Broadway Pier. Note: there are no Customs inspectors
on duty at Broadway Pier. They are called from other work
sites to provide this service. A public telephone is located
at the observation platform near the center of the pier.
- All persons aboard the clearing vessel are quarantined
to the vessel until cleared by Customs. Additionally no
visitors
are allowed aboard the vessel.
- Persons of foreign nationality
should identify themselves to make arrangements to declare
entry into the country
with the Immigration and Nationalization Service. U.S.
Customs
will make the necessary phone calls to start this process.
Recreational Vessels Under 130 Feet in Length
Recreational vessels, including corporate yachts, less
than 130 feet in length must clear Customs at the Shelter
Island
Harbor Police Dock. This dock is located at the south end
of Shelter Island and is posted "Pleasure Craft Clearance".
The Harbor Police fleet shares the dock. When space is
UN-available at the designated facility, vessel should
utilize one of
the three quarantine buoys located across from the dock
until space is available.
When a vessel uses the Shelter Island facility the following
procedure should be used to expedite the process.
- After
docking the master of the vessel should contact the U.S.
Customs Service at (619) 685-4300 ext. 4 and request
an inspector respond to Shelter Island. Note: there
are no Customs inspectors on duty at Shelter Island. They
are called from other work sites to provide this service.
A

and
may be used to make notification.
- All persons aboard
the clearing vessel are quarantined to the vessel until
cleared by Customs. Additionally
no visitors are allowed aboard the vessel.
- Persons
of foreign nationality should identify themselves to

into the country
with the Immigration and Nationalization Service.
U.S. Customs will make the necessary phone calls
to start
this process.
