Port Partners with Ridelink to Encourage Carpooling
The Port of San Diego has partnered with RideLink to help reduce the environmental impact of its employees’ commutes. For several years, the Port has encouraged employees to use public transportation such as the bus and the trolley, and has provided preferred parking spaces for employees who carpool. The Port’s recent partnership with RideLink will strengthen the Port’s efforts by providing strategies and effective options to driving alone to work.

One of California's largest environmental events, this year volunteers filled ten 40-yard dumpsters with collected debris from San Diego Bay.
The popular event focused on the Chula Vista Marina, Cesar Chavez Park, Embarcadero Marina Park North, National City Marine Terminal and Chollas Creek. Operation Clean Sweep was produced in partnership by the Port of San Diego, San Diego Port Tenants Association, U.S. Navy and San Diego Gas & Electric.

Letters inviting participation sent to truck owners serving the Port of San Diego
The Port of San Diego is asking truck owners who do business at the Port's Tenth Avenue and National City Marine Terminals if they would be willing to participate in a program to reduce air emissions. Letters were recently sent out to 364 truck owners informing them of the program that would help pay for truck retrofitting or replacement.
“Party Boat” Neptune’s Palace Removed from South San Diego Bay [UPDATE]
Contact: Dale Frost (619) 686-6222
An abandoned party boat, Neptune's Place, which has been stuck in shallow water off the Chula Vista bay front has finally been towed away.
Workers from Marine Group Boat Works removed the vessel and towed it to the company's boat yard during an early morning high tide on Tuesday, June 3. The 120-foot boat has been stuck in South San Diego Bay since 2003, when it blew off its moorings during a storm. Since then, the abandoned boat, considered an environmental hazard, has remained in the shallow water.
Port of San Diego Goes Green with Fleet Vehicles
In an effort to minimize air pollution on Port tidelands around San Diego Bay, the Port of San Diego is leasing 11 Ford Escape hybrid sport utility vehicles to replace some of the cars and trucks in its aging auto fleet. The new Fords arrived on April 28 and will be used by Port staff while conducting business.
Acquiring the hybrid vehicles is part of the Port’s Environmental Fund that was established in December 2006. The fund supports environmental projects that will improve the condition of San Diego Bay and the Port tidelands. The Environmental Fund paid the difference between what a gas-fueled vehicle would cost to lease, versus the cost to lease the hybrids. This amounted to approximately $5,000 per vehicle.
