sirampThe Shelter Island public boat launch ramp will be partially closed Saturday, May 19, 2012, due to an unforeseen construction incident. The ramp had been undergoing repairs since May 14 and was scheduled to be completed for the weekend.

Construction workers will be conducting work on Saturday to make repairs to the ramp. They will work on one half of the ramp at a time, so that boaters will still be able to access it.

leonwhite051712The Port of San Diego's Big Bay Boot Camp will take place Sunday, May 20, 2012 at four of the Port's waterfront parks, including National City's Pepper Park where former National Football League players will conduct drills for kids like the pros do.

The Big Bay Boot Camp is free for children and adults of all ages and abilities. Fitness experts and personal trainers from across the San Diego region will conduct classes from 7 a.m. to noon in four locations: Bayside Park in Chula Vista, Portwood Pier Plaza in Imperial Beach, Embarcadero Marina Park North in San Diego, and Pepper Park in National City.

sirampBeginning Monday, May 14, 2012, the Port of San Diego will be making improvements to the Shelter Island Boat Launch facility, located on Shelter Island Drive in San Diego.

Improvements include resurfacing the boat trailer parking lot, replacing damaged sections of concrete in the lot, re-striping parking stalls and traffic flow lanes and sealing areas of the boat launch ramp to minimize development of potholes.

sportfishingartThree Port of San Diego tenants will unveil a new artwork that pays tribute to the San Diego sportfishing industry and the many vessel captains who have made San Diego homeport to one of the world's largest and most modernized sportfishing fleets at 10 a.m. on Thursday, April 26, 2012.

The artwork, titled "Sportfishing Legacy," will be unveiled at Fisherman's Landing, 2838 Garrison Street, San Diego (map).
