Big Bay Museums Participating in San Diego Museum Month

Two Big Bay venues are among 39 museums in San Diego County offering half-price admission through the month of February.

The USS Midway Museum and Maritime Museum of San Diego are participating in Museum Month, sponsored by the San Diego Museum Council. To receive the discounted admission, pick up a free Museum Month Pass at any Macy's location in San Diego.

The pass is good for up to four people at participating historical sites, educational institutions and cultural exhibitions.

Visitors to the USS Midway Museum can get a close-up view of a restored F4U-4 Corsair, a rare signature fighter plane. The recently donated Corsair joins 25 other aircraft on display at the aircraft carrier museum. More than 4 million people have visited the USS Midway Museum since it opened in 2004, making it the most-visited floating ship museum in the world.

The Maritime Museum of San Diego is also offering free, guided Historic Walking Tours along the North Embarcadero on weekends at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. The free tours, lasting approximately 45 minutes to an hour, will highlight some of the tideland's greatest gems, including Seaport Village, the USS Midway Museum, the Port of San Diego's Urban Trees program and the collection of U.S. military heritage art at Tuna Harbor Park which is called "The Greatest Generation Walk."

Museum Month was created in 1989 to promote awareness of the region's museums, historical sites, educational institutions and cultural offerings. Last year more than 19,000 visitors used the Museum Month Pass to visit museums at half-price.
