San Diego Convention & Visitors Bureau International Visitors Center Relocating

Labels: Press ReleasesNews

IVACThe International Visitors Center, currently located at 1040 ½ West Broadway (on the corner of West Broadway and North Harbor Drive) in San Diego, will be relocated to 1140 North Harbor Drive, near the B Street Cruise Ship Terminal.

The visitor center began moving December 16 and will continue moving through December 25. It is managed by the San Diego Convention & Visitors Bureau and provides brochures, maps and vacation planning kits to visitors.

It is being relocated due to the upcoming start of construction for the North Embarcadero Visionary Plan Phase I project – a project that will beautify the San Diego bay front from the Navy Pier to B Street Pier. The project is a collaboration between the Port of San Diego, the City of San Diego and the Centre City Development Corporation.

Groundbreaking is scheduled for January 5, 2012.

While the International Visitors Center is being moved, visitors can obtain information and discount coupons at the two other visitor centers, located in La Jolla and Alpine. The La Jolla Visitor Center is located at 7966 Herschel Avenue in La Jolla and the Alpine Center, also known as the California Welcome Center, is located at the Viejas Outlet Center at 5005 Willows Road, Suite H110 in Alpine.

A temporary administrative office will be open for walk-in visitors starting December 26 at 1341 North Harbor Drive, near the Holiday Inn on the Bay. It will remain in operation until the permanent International Visitors Center is completely set up at 1140 North Harbor Drive.

For discounted tickets and other vacation planning inquiries visit sandiego.org or call (619) 236-1212.

The Port of San Diego was created by the state legislature in 1962. Since then, it has invested $1.7 billion in public improvements in its five member cities – Chula Vista, Coronado, Imperial Beach, National City and San Diego.

The Port District oversees two maritime cargo terminals, two cruise ship terminals, 17 public parks, the Harbor Police Department and the leases of more than 600 tenant and sub tenant businesses around San Diego Bay.
