“Illuminations” consists of mosaic tiled seawalls that were created as a partner piece for “Surfhenge”. The work elaborates upon light and color and the atmospheric experiences provided by the beach experience.

Other professional commissions of Mary Dominguez include “Sea Shells” at the San Diego International Airport and “The Children’s Wall” at Children’s Hospital, San Diego.

In October 1999 Pier Plaza and its public art received an Orchid Award in the annual Orchids & Onions program, organized by members of eight professional design associations to recognize the best (orchids) and worst (onions) of development in the San Diego region.
