Artist: Leonardo Nierman - Mexico City, Mexico
Location: Convention Center
stair landing, bay side.

“Flame of Friendship”/ “Flama De La Amistad” is a gift from the Government of Mexico that was presented to the people of San Diego as a gesture of friendship. Dedicated on October 31, 2000, this original artwork is located on the upper level landing of the grand outdoor staircase of the San Diego Conventions Center, which provides stunning vistas of San Diego Bay. The sculpture is made of polished stainless steel and is nearly 21-feet in height. It will soon be remounted atop a specially designed pedestal.

Artist's comments:

This is a flame, but it's also an embrace. It is my hope for mankind that one day we will feel like brothers, act like brothers and love like brothers, instead of like adversaries.
