"Waterfront Steel: The Tidelands Sculpture Exhibit"-a collection of eight large-scale steel sculptures by internationally celebrated artist Bernar Venet-- will be on display around San Diego Bay starting in November 2008. The exhibit is presented by the Port of San Diego in partnership with Scott White Contemporary Art.

The installation will be the first large-scale exhibition of monumental works around San Diego Bay by one artist. Previously on view in Asia, Europe, Middle East, and South America the sculptures will be on display at Harbor Island, Harbor Drive, and Embarcadero Marina Parks locations through October 2009.

The exhibition will include works from Venet's most important series including Vertical Arcs, Straight Lines, Classic Arcs, Leaning Arcs, Random Combination and Indeterminate Lines.

The installation of eight planned sculptures can be viewed at the following locations along the San Diego Bay:

  • Harbor Island: "Twelve Straight Lines" and "Random Combination of Indeterminate Lines"
  • Laurel Street and Harbor Drive Traffic Triangle: "Arcs in Disorder: 5 Arc x 5"
  • Embarcadero Marina Park North: "Four Indeterminate Lines" and "220.5° Arc x 15"
  • Embarcadero Marina Park South: "97.5° Arc x 9" and "221.5° Arc x 28"
  • Harbor Drive, in front of the Marriott Hotel: "Three Indeterminate Lines"

Another first is the teaming up of the Port of San Diego with the San Diego International Airport, San Diego Museum of Art, Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego, and the Omni Hotel who will also be exhibiting Venet sculptures as part of this program.
