Meet the Artist Behind the Port’s "Wrap" Public Art Project

thumb WALKERPICThe Port of San Diego's Public Art Office will host a panel conversation with artist Randy Walker on Tuesday, April 16, 2013, as part of the Open Sessions program series.

Walker, who received the public art commission for "Wrap," is currently in the process of developing a temporary artwork concept for the Tenth Avenue Marine Terminal in San Diego and the National City Marine Terminal in National City.


Artist Selected for WRAP Public Art Project

The Port of San Diego's Public Art office has announced Randy Walker is the selected artist for "WRAP," a new public art project designed to encourage artistic investigation of Port tidelands in the development of a temporary artwork.

Walker will develop a temporary, multi-site artwork for the Port's maritime terminals, Tenth Avenue Marine Terminal in San Diego and National City Marine Terminal, that creatively reveals, through a wrapping approach, some aspect of the working port while providing a unique visual experience for both pedestrians, vehicular and/or waterside traffic.

thumb-callforartists-tidelands-2-1The Port of San Diego is issuing a call for artists for tideLANDS².

tideLANDS is a Port of San Diego program designed to encourage artistic exploration of Port tidelands by California artists. tideLANDS² is the second installment of the tideLANDS program.  

Artists selected will create temporary public artworks such as installations, social and spatial interventions and other inventive practices that reflect their visual art practice and are created in direct response to a site with the aim of stimulating dialogue and providing new perspectives on the San Diego waterfront.
