Public Art Panel Selects Team To Light San Diego-Coronado Bay Bridge

A Public Art selection panel is recommending a team from London to artistically light the San Diego-Coronado Bay Bridge. The panel, comprised of experts in architecture, lighting and energy, selected the Peter Fink team’s lighting concept over two other finalists.A public art selection panel –  comprised of experts in art, architecture, lighting and green energy – is recommending a combined European and North American team to artistically light the San Diego-Coronado Bay Bridge. The team will be lead by artist Peter Fink of FoRM Associates in collaboration with Speirs and Major Associates and Buro Happold.

The panel selected the Peter Fink team over two other finalists, the Bideau Company and the team of Ned Kahn/ Patrick McInerney/ Arup.

   

Selection Panel to Meet on San Diego-Coronado Bay Bridge Lighting Project Proposals

The selection panel for the San Diego-Coronado Bay Bridge lighting project will begin at 10 a.m Friday, July 23, 2010, in the Port of San Diego's Training Room, 3165 Pacific Highway (map).

The Port of San Diego will be hosting a public open house on Tuesday, July 6, 2010, to present the video concepts from three artist-led teams selected as finalists in a project to illuminate the San Diego-Coronado Bay Bridge with artistic lighting. The workshop will be held from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the former Housing Commission building, located at 1625 Newton Avenue, Suite C, San Diego (Map). 

   

“The Girl in Red Shoes” Public Artwork Unveiled by Port of San Diego

'The Girl in Red Shoes' bronze sculpture now stands near the Friendship Bell at the tip of Shelter Island. It symbolizes the many decades of friendship between sister ports, the Port  of San Diego and the Port of Yokohama.“The Girl in Red Shoes” bronze sculpture now stands near the Friendship Bell at the tip of Shelter Island. It symbolizes the many decades of friendship between sister ports, the Port of San Diego and the Port of Yokohama.

The artwork was unveiled by Port of San Diego officials and Yokohama delegates on June 27, 2010.

“It is our hope that the statue will continue to strengthen bonds between our ports, cities and countries,” said Masayuki Suzuki, Chairman of the Yokohama-San Diego Friendship Committee.
