Divers will be cleaning up lost or discarded fishing gear

Fishing enthusiasts on San Diego Bay may be temporarily inconvenienced from November 7 to the 16th as the Port begins a project to clean up discarded or lost fishing gear at seven popular fishing areas. The closure is necessary so that divers can remove fishing lines and other gear from under the water. Each closure will take approximately two to three hours.

Lost or discarded fishing gear can become entangled on reefs, posing a danger to lobsters, fish and birds, which can become trapped in the lines and die. Signs will be posted at each location, along with a map of alternate fishing areas.

The areas undergoing the cleanup are located at Embarcadero Marina Park South, Embarcadero Marina Park North, Chula Vista Bayside Park, Chula Vista Bayfront Park, Pepper Park, Cesar Chavez Pier, Shelter Island Pier, Coronado Ferry Pier and Spanish Landing Park. Affected areas are listed on the map below.
