Media Invited for Tour of San Diego Bay’s Working Waterfront for Discussions of Maritime Preservation and Proposed Ballot Initiative
Media Invited for Tour of San Diego Bay’s Working Waterfront for Discussions of Maritime Preservation and Proposed Ballot Initiative
Contact: John Gilmore (619) 686-6222 or (619) 341-5684
WHAT: The Port of San Diego's commissioners say a proposed ballot measure, which purports to protect maritime and industrial uses at the Tenth Avenue Marine Terminal, threatens the viability of the terminal while disrupting waterfront businesses and industry, including several ship yards and ship repair operations within Port jurisdiction. The initiative would allow hotels, restaurants and a sports stadium at the marine terminal.
Plans are for the developer-backed initiative to be submitted in June to qualify for the November ballot.
Given the high level of interest in the initiative, the Port of San Diego is offering local media a rare behind the scenes tour of the Tenth Avenue Marine Terminal, General Dynamics NASSCO and the National City Marine Terminal – all critical components of San Diego’s working waterfront.
WHEN: Tuesday, May 20, 10 a.m. to noon. Please arrive at 9:45 a.m. for security check in.
WHERE: Meet at the Port Administration Building, which is located at 3165 Pacific Highway, San Diego, CA 92101-1128
WHO: Bruce Hollingsworth, President/CEO, Port of San Diego
Frederick J. Harris, President, General Dynamics NASSCO
Sharon Cloward, President, San Diego Port Tenants Association
John Pasha, Vice President, Pasha Automotive Services
Lee Wilson, Vice President, Administration, Northup Grumman Continental Maritime
SECURITY: Please provide the name(s) of those attending from your media organization to the Port by Monday, May 19, at noon. All persons attending the tour must present a valid form of identification (driver’s license or passport).
