These hard facts about San Diego's Cold Storage Facility are just a fraction of the total features and amenities that make it one of the premiere operations for perishables on the West Coast.
It is the newest link in the chain of cold storage cargo facilities that connects San Diego to the Pacific Rim's other major trading nations, including Australia, Canada, Latin America, Mexico, and New Zealand.
Size and Space
- On-dock storage: 3,476,220 l. c. ft. (98,441 c. m. )
- Frozen/chilled off-dock storage: 2,400,000 c. ft. (67,964 c. m.)
- Eight rooms with individual temperature and humidity control
Cooling and Freezing Technology
- Ammonia-based refrigerant system uses secondary brine cooling
- Separate brine systems and pumps contain odor/gas within each room
- Rapid product temperature pull down (from 60 degrees F to 34 degrees F) under controlled humidity within 24 hours
Security and Inspection Services
- Professional security personnel patrol gated terminal
- 24-hour temperature monitoring and terminal security
- Customs, border protection and USDA inspection services on-site
