Harbor Police Blotter: November 11-17, 2009
The Harbor Police made 13 arrests during this period. Three were for selling drugs, two for possession of drugs, two for outstanding warrants and two for driving under the influence. In addition, there was one each for being a danger to themselves or others, assault with a caustic chemical, being drunk in public and evading an officer.
There were two sick/injury reports. Both of the patients required hospitalization.
The Harbor Police K-9 team responded to two incidents on Shelter Island in which vessels were searched for possible explosives. The team also assisted the Chula Vista police with the search of a vehicle for drugs near the Best Western Chula Vista Inn on Arizona Street near Broadway.
The Harbor Police marine assistance team provided help for three vessels that were taking on water in San Diego Bay. It also provided a courtesy tow for a vessel near the Sweetwater Channel in the South Bay area and provided assistance to Customs and Border Protection with the search of a vessel.
Crime reports included a rape in an industrial area just south of the San Diego-Coronado Bay Bridge near Harbor Drive. A man was found dead of natural causes near the Manchester Grand Hyatt. Other crime reports included vandalism at the Sheraton Hotel on Harbor Island, two incidents involving stolen luggage from San Diego International Airport, a car was broken into near Seaport Village, property was taken from the San Diego Convention Center and someone stole property from a business on Pacific Highway. There were two incidents of purses or wallets being stolen at San Diego International Airport and a car was vandalized on Cesar Chavez Parkway.
There were 21 miscellaneous reports. These included five incidents of weapons or ammunition being abandoned at San Diego International Airport. There was a report of a lost Transportation Security Administration jacket, a lost airport employee identification badge, a lost airport employee vehicle permit and several reports of lost personal property at the airport. These included lost cell phones, passports, credit cards and lost identification cards. There was a report of runaway juveniles, and a report of an illegally moored vessel.
The Harbor Police issued 58 misdemeanor citations. These ranged from possession of open alcohol containers in Port parks, possession of less than an ounce of marijuana, speeding, texting and talking on a cell phone while driving, and various other vehicle offenses.
