Harbor Police Officers Honored

Harbor Police Officers HonoredTwo Harbor Police officers have been honored for saving the life of a man who plunged from the San Diego-Coronado Bay Bridge into San Diego Bay. Honored with Life Saving Commendations at the April 8 Board of Port Commissioners meeting was Corporal David Marshall and Officer Brad Wiebke. The rescue was part of a chase of a suspect by police officers from other agencies.

The chase ended atop the bridge when the suspect got out of a vehicle with Stryker, an Oceanside police dog, and went over the railing, falling 200 feet into the harbor. The officers were aboard a Harbor Police boat when they saw the man and dog go into the bay. They revived the man, who continues to recover. They attempted to revive Stryker by performing cardio pulmonary resuscitation, but the dog did not survive. Corporal Marshall is a 13-year veteran of the Harbor Police and Officer Wiebke has served on the Harbor Police for three years.
