Enrollment Center for Security Credential Opens in San Diego

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has opened a center that issues identification cards to people who need unescorted access to the Port of San Diego’s marine terminals.  The card ensures that workers have gone through a thorough background check and are not a security threat.

TWIC, or Transportation Worker’s Identification Credential, is a program managed by the DHS and will be mandatory as of September 2008.

The San Diego TWIC center is located on the bottom floor of the Laurel Street airport parking garage at Laurel and Kettner Boulevard.  Port staff has notified the trucking companies that move goods from the terminals of the new requirement and Port personnel are handing out flyers explaining the TWIC program and the opening of the enrollment center to truckers and others entering the terminals.

The TWIC office is open Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.  Workers are able to find additional information and pre-enroll for TWIC online at www.tsa.gov/twic
