Port of San Diego Names New Assistant Police Chief
Friday, 21 October 2011
Contact: John Gilmore (686) 7206
A veteran Los Angeles police lieutenant has been appointed to the Port of San Diego's newly created position of Assistant Harbor Police Chief.
Harbor Police Chief John Bolduc announced the appointment of Mark Stainbrook on Monday, Oct. 17, 2011. The lieutenant currently heads the Anti-Terrorism Intelligence Section of the Los Angeles Police Department.
"He brings to the Harbor Police a wealth of experience in leadership, anti-terrorism, homeland security, patrol, special operations and community outreach," Bolduc said.
Stainbrook is a graduate of the FBI National Academy and a Fulbright Fellow from Leeds University in London. He also has a master degree in public administration from California State University, Long Beach.
Stainbrook will be sworn into the position at a Harbor Police ceremony on Friday, November 18, 2011.
The Harbor Police Department is the law enforcement arm of the Port of San Diego and has more than 130 sworn officers —all trained as firefighters and police officers. The jurisdiction of the Harbor Police includes San Diego Bay, San Diego International Airport, as well as the tidelands of the five member cities: San Diego, Chula Vista, Coronado, Imperial Beach, and National City.
The Port of San Diego was created by the state legislature in 1962. Since then, it has invested $1.7 billion in public improvements in its five member cities.
The port oversees two maritime cargo terminals, two cruise ship terminals, 17 public parks, the Harbor Police Department and the leases of more than 600 tenant and sub tenant businesses around San Diego Bay.
