Harbor Police Arrest Suspect In Sexual Assault Cases
Thursday, 13 October 2011
Contact: John Gilmore (619) 686-7206
The Harbor Police Department has arrested a massage therapist wanted in connection with at least two sexual assaults, including one that occurred seven years ago.
Police arrested Oleg Petrov, 45, of San Diego on Friday, Oct. 7, 2011, at his home in La Mesa. Harbor Police detective Michael Dye said the suspect is being charged with misdemeanor sexual battery in two separate incidents that occurred during a massage session in downtown area spas and waterfront hotels.
Officers arrested Petrov after serving a warrant for his arrest, which was issued by the San Diego Superior Court. The first assault on a woman in her mid 20s occurred about seven years ago. The other assault, also on a woman in her mid 20s, was reported in late May.
Detective Dye is attempting to locate possible victims, and he is asking that anyone who may have had contact with the suspect to call his office at (619) 686-6512.
The Harbor Police Department is the law enforcement arm of the Port of San Diego and has more than 130 sworn officers —all trained as firefighters and police officers. The jurisdiction of the Harbor Police includes San Diego Bay, the San Diego International Airport, as well as the tidelands of the five member cities: San Diego, Chula Vista, Coronado, Imperial Beach, and National City.
As homeport to the U.S. Navy's Third Fleet, two cargo terminals, a cruise ship terminal and because of its close proximity to San Diego International Airport, the Port of San Diego is one of 17 U.S.ports that are considered strategic ports. Harbor security is a dominant factor in the port's daily operations and the Harbor Police Department works closely with the U.S. Coast Guard, the Navy, Customs and Border Protection, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the California Office of Homeland Security, the California National Guard and other state and local agencies. The Harbor Police is part of a regional and integrated approach to port and seaport security.
