The Port of San Diego's Harbor Police Department is partnering with the San Diego Blood Bank for a life-saving event on Wednesday, January 6, 2010.
The Harbor Police Blood Drive will be held in the parking lot at the Harbor Police headquarters, at 3380 N. Harbor Drive (map), from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The event is open to the public and Port employees.
"The Harbor Police is proud to be part of the Port team in sponsoring quarterly blood drives, resulting in an increase of blood donations to the San Diego Blood Bank from the Port District," said Officer Fred Curtis.
The basic requirements for donating blood are to be in generally good health and feel well, be 17 years of age and weigh at least 110 pounds.
Appointments can be made ahead of time. You can book online at mysdbb.org and enter the sponsor code SHP1. You may also call 800-4MY-SDBB.
Donors are advised to eat a good meal and drink plenty of fluids before donating blood. All donors must show proof of identification.
As an independent blood center serving some 50 hospitals in the Southern California Region, the San Diego Blood Bank is a member of America's Blood Centers, the American Association of Blood Banks, and the Greater San Diego Chamber of Commerce.
