Harbor Police Seek Public’s Help in Laser Incident

The Port of San Diego Harbor Police Department is requesting the public's help in obtaining information on a laser pointing incident that injured two police officers, one seriously.
The incident occurred at approximately 8:30 p.m. on Friday, May 4, 2012. Two Harbor Police officers were on routine patrol in San Diego Bay near the Shelter Island Fishing Pier when someone pointed a green laser at them. The officers described the laser as coming from a hill between Canon and Talbot Streets, below Catalina Boulevard in the Point Loma neighborhood.
Harbor Police to Volunteer as Waiters During Tip-A-Cop Fundraiser

Officers from the Port of San Diego's Harbor Police Department will take public service to a new level by volunteering as waiters for an annual fundraiser for the Special Olympics of San Diego.
On Tuesday, April 24, Harbor Police officers will participate in the annual Tip-A-Cop fundraiser at the Boathouse Restaurant, 2040 Harbor Island Drive, on Harbor Island. The public is invited to dine out for a good cause from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Patrons will be served dinner by officers, dressed in full uniform.
Harbor Police Officers to Provide Water Safety Tips for Barrio Logan Community

Members of the Port of San Diego's Harbor Police Department dive and firefighting teams will be in the Barrio Logan community on Saturday, April 7, 2012, to provide residents with information on water safety.
The community event is scheduled to run from 10 a.m. to noon in Cesar Chavez Park, 1449 East Cesar Chavez Parkway, in San Diego (map).
Harbor Police to Begin Charging Negligent Vehicle Impound Processing Fee

The Port of San Diego's Harbor Police Department will begin charging a $129 vehicle impound fee for cars towed, stored or impounded due to negligent driving, starting April 6, 2012.
The Board of Port Commissioners approved the cost recovery program ordinance, Section 8.29 of the San Diego Unified Port District Code - (PDF), at its March 6, 2012 public meeting.

A public hearing to establish a cost recovery program for vehicles impounded by the Harbor Police Department due to negligent driving is scheduled for the March 6, 2012, Board of Port Commissioners meeting.
The proposal will be discussed by the Board of Port Commissioners at its meeting in the Port of San Diego’s Administration Building, 3165 Pacific Highway, San Diego. The meeting starts at 1 p.m.
