One of the Port of San Diego's many responsibilities is to protect the bay and its resources. The Environment and Land Use Department is made up of creative environmental and planning leaders dedicated to sustainable operations and the responsible development of San Diego Bay's world class waterfront while improving its water, air and sediments in order to support enhanced natural resources and serve the people of California.
As part of its role as an environmental steward, the Port of San Diego's is hosting an e-waste recycling event to coincide with "Earth Week."
The public is invited to bring unwanted electronics to the Green Port event on Thursday, April 25 from 7 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. at the Port's Administration Building's visitor parking lot, 3165 Pacific Highway.
The Port of San Diego is pleased to announce the hiring of Jason H. Giffen as its Director of Environmental and Land Use Management.
Giffen most recently served as the Director for the San Luis Obispo County Department of Planning and Building, since September 2010. With a budget of more than $11 million, and a staff of 90, he directed a range of programs including environmental planning, long-range planning, economic development, energy issues, building inspections and code enforcement.
A first-of-its-kind sustainable business network launched by the Port of San Diego is continuing to help Port businesses improve their energy efficiency and sustainability goals.
The Green Business Network, now in its third year thanks to continued support from San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E), has grown from 49 members – participating in the 2011 Green Business Challenge – to 70 waterfront businesses who continue to demonstrate a commitment to sustainability in 2013.
