A draft environmental document for a pier replacement project at a San Diego Bay ship repair facility is ready for public review and comment.

The draft Environmental Impact Report (EIR) for the proposed replacement of Pier 4 at BAE Systems San Diego Ship Repair facility located at 2205 E. Belt Street, San Diego is available for 45-day public review period, beginning today, Monday, May 7 through Wednesday, June 20, 2012.

Osprey Fledglings Spotted Along Port of San Diego Tidelands

A protected bird that calls San Diego Bay home continues to thrive in nesting platforms built by the Port of San Diego.

Osprey fledglings were spotted in two locations in the South Bay recently. The first pair was seen in a nest at the entrance to Pepper Park, in the Port's member city of National City. This is the fourth year in a row that the birds have nested at that location.

Port of San Diego to Study Environmental Impacts of B Street Pier Mooring Dolphin

The Port of San Diego is preparing an environmental impact report (EIR) for a plan to install a mooring dolphin west of its B Street Pier.

A mooring dolphin is a man-made marine structure that extends above the water and provides a point to moor vessels. The pier is located at 1140 North Harbor Drive, San Diego, CA 92101, between Broadway and Ash Street. The Port of San Diego has prepared a Notice of Preparation (NOP) of a Draft Environmental Impact Report for the proposed mooring dolphin.

State Superintendent of Public Instruction Visits Chula Vista Nature Center

State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson visited the Chula Vista Nature Center in south San Diego Bay on April 3, 2012. Torlakson, California's highest elected education official, wanted to tour a facility where young students experience science and nature first-hand and up close.

While there, Torlakson got a close look at a Red Tail Hawk, a Golden Eagle and a Sonoran Desert Tortoise, while also learning about the nature center's educational programs.

Come Walk the Watershed with San Diego Coastkeeper

Students are invited to San Diego Coastkeeper's 5th Annual Walk the Watershed restoration and education event at Otay Valley Regional Park at Finney Elementary School on Saturday, March 31, 2012, from 8:30 a.m. to noon. The school is located at 3950 Byrd Street in San Diego.

During the free event, elementary and middle school children will walk a path through a natural canyon, stopping at educational stations along the way.
