Take public transportation
to the Port of San Diego
Just over the San Diego-Coronado Bridge is the community of Coronado with its island feel. A pleasant way to arrive is the 15-minute ferry ride from San Diego’s Embarcadero, arriving at the Coronado Ferry Landing Marketplace.
Quality shops, restaurants, luxury hotels, parks and public docks make it easy for boaters to dock and dine along the Coronado bay front and the nearby restaurants.
The 22-acre Coronado Tidelands Park includes playing fields, a children’s playground, parking and the landscaped beauty of picnic areas, a bike path and a small beach. It is the largest of the Port of San Diego’s 17 parks, with expansive views of the San Diego-Coronado Bridge, the San Diego skyline and San Diego Bay with its ongoing maritime and boating activities. Along with a great view, the Ferry Landing pier offers excellent fishing.
Adjacent to the park, the Coronado Island Marriott Resort attracts local and international guests. The Port developed Coronado Tidelands Park and the hotel simultaneously in the mid-1980s with an eye toward creating an active and attractive waterfront. A pedestrian promenade stretches from the park and hotel past the Ferry Landing, offering public access along the waterfront.
Continuing to improve the Coronado waterfront, the Port partnered with the City of Coronado in the development of Glorietta Bay and the Port contributed money for improving the seawall and other waterfront areas.
“Sheltering Wings,” part of the Port’s public art collection, is located in Coronado at Grand Caribe Shoreline Park. A bronze sculpture of two blue herons by artist Christopher Slatoff is a perfect fit for the 3.7-acre natural habitat located near the Coronado Cays.
