The Port of San Diego has prepared a final environmental impact report (EIR) for a proposed expansion of the Coronado Yacht Club that would enlarge its clubhouse and add 100 additional boat slips. The Port of San Diego has prepared a final environmental impact report (EIR) for a proposed expansion of the Coronado Yacht Club that would enlarge its clubhouse and add 100 additional boat slips.

A public hearing on the proposed project will be held July 12, 2011 at the regular Board of Port Commissioner’s meeting. Members of the public, organizations, and governmental agencies are encouraged to attend the 1 p.m. meeting at the Port Administration Building, 3165 Pacific Highway, in San Diego.

The Coronado Yacht Club is planning the renovation on its leasehold, 1631 Strand Way, in Coronado.

In addition to the expanded clubhouse and increased number of boat slips, the project includes an enlargement of the club’s junior sailing facility. That will enable the yacht club to more efficiently operate its expanding sailing instruction programs that are open to yacht club members as well as the general public.

The final EIR is an environmental planning document that summarizes the possible environmental impacts of constructing and operating the project, such as as air quality, biological resources, water quality, noise, parking, traffic and land use.

As an environmental steward, the port supports development that adheres to the state’s environmental policies. This project also enhances recreational opportunities, which the Port of San Diego also supports.
