Draft Environmental Review Completed for Coronado Yacht Club Redevelopment

The Coronado Yacht Club is proposing to replace buildings including the club house and junior sailing center with larger quarters, increase parking from roughly 175 to nearly 220 spaces, expand the dock, and add slips, bringing the total number to 372.A draft Environmental Impact Report on the proposed expansion and redevelopment of the Coronado Yacht Club is ready for public review.

The report, which assesses the possible environmental impact on such elements as air quality, biological resources, water quality, noise, parking, traffic and land use, will be available for review for 45 days beginning today, Wednesday, Oct. 27, 2010, through Monday, Dec. 13, 2010.

The club is proposing to replace buildings including the club house and junior sailing center with larger quarters, increase parking from roughly 175 to nearly 220 spaces, expand the dock, and add slips, bringing the total number to 372.

Construction is scheduled to begin in mid- to late-2011 and be done in two phases. Building improvements will be done first and take about 18 months while the water-side improvements will begin in late 2011 with construction expected to be completed in roughly 20 months. The total duration of project construction is anticipated to be 24 months.

Following the public review, the Port staff will prepare responses to all comments. The public input will be incorporated into the final Environmental Impact Report.

It is anticipated that in early 2011, the final environmental report will be presented to the Board of Port Commissioners for certification.
